PCSX2 SVN r4866 is released. PCSX2 is an open source PlayStation 2 (PS2) emulator for the Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. With the most recent versions, many PS2 games are playable (although speed limitations have made play-to-completion tests for many games impractical), and several games are claimed to have full functionality.
PCSX2 SVN Changelog:
r4864
spu2x: linux compilation fix.
r4865
pcsx2: Implemented Threaded VU1 :D
Threading VU1 took a lot of rewrites and new code to make possible (MTGS, microVU, gifUnit...), but we finally got to the point where it was feasible, and now we've done it! (so now everyone can stop complaining that pcsx2 only takes advantages of 2 cores :p).
The speedups in the games that benefit from it are great if you have a cpu with 3+ cores (generally a 10~45% speedup), however games that are GS limited can be a slowdown (especially on dual core cpu's).
The option can be found in the speedhacks section as "MTVU (Multi-Threaded microVU1)". And when enabled it should should show the VU thread-time percentage on the title bar window (Like we currently do for EE/GS/UI threads).
It is listed as a speedhack because in order for threading VU1 to have been a speedup, we need to assume that games will not send gif packets containing Signal/Finish/Label commands from path 1 (vu1's xgkick). The good news is very-few games ever do this, so the compatibility of MTVU is very high (a game that does do this will likely hang).
Note: vs2010 builds and Linux builds need to be updated to include "MTVU.h" and "MTVU.cpp".

wow!!! fucking good news! its about time they used 4 cores..thank u so much! for all the good work! keep it up! 10/10
ReplyDeleteis GOW & GOW2 compatible with 4cores now?
ReplyDeleteMan, the speed increase is awesome! Im able to run tekken5 with just a few speed hacks at 80fps on my i7-2630qm (asus g53sw).
ReplyDeleteDOLPHIN TEAM WATCH AND LEARN! :)
great!!! but apparently the speedup is only for intel cpu's...shadow of the colossus i still slow....:(
ReplyDeleteImpressive. Massive speed up in a lot of games, just tested with Tale Of the Abyss and it works even better than on a real PS2.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely an important milestone in PCSX2 development history.

FINALLY! thx.
I hope my AMD six core now have better performance with pcsx2
ReplyDeleteWOOOHOOOO i freakin love my i7 930@ 4.05ghz. finally i can run any games that mightve run slow at FULL SPEED. =D, thank you pcsx2 team!!!
ReplyDeleteIs it real to run games at full speed in intel core 2 duo 2,1 Ghz?
ReplyDelete>apparently the speedup is only for intel cpu's
ReplyDeleteyou are right, because the new MTGS (metal gear solid) code is too awesome for AMD cpus to handle.
you can also have a good speedup if you delete system32.dll. it`s a virus from microsoft that makes your pc slower.
MAGNIFICENT!?!?!?! FINALLY 4+ core supports~ THX!! :D
ReplyDeleteWOW fantastic speedup!!!
ReplyDeleteThis update about 2+ cores are only for intel ?
ReplyDeleteI dont know wat ppl are talkin about but this works perfect on my AMD Phenom 955 x4 3.2 Ghz CPU with Perfect Speedup ^_^
ReplyDeleteErr in have an intel core Quad 2.4Ghz, and im enabled the opcion of the 3+cores but the speed dont Change!! Kingdom Hearts 2 and Bleach Battlers 2nd dont work whit this!! That opcion make these two Games run a litte Slower!!! Why that Happen?
ReplyDeleteIf you pay close attention to the changelog:
ReplyDelete"The speedups in the games that benefit from it are great"
So, I guess you just found out that these games simply don't benefit from it.
But how i can Know What games can run perfec whit the +3core speedhack? Hmm For those that did work! please tell me the Games that your tested and works!and also in tried the Dragon ball budokai 3(not tenkaichi)Jap! and dint work to!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous! Thanks for the Anwser!

ReplyDeletethanks !
ReplyDeleteYeah, finally!
ReplyDeletePCSX2 goes SSJ4!
this is definately not just for intel you people make no sense where the hell does it say just for intel haha Works great on my phenom for most games ive tried, besides tokyo extreme racer 3 there was no increase at all.
ReplyDeleteAMD Bulldozer will jizz on i7 Sandy Bridge!
ReplyDeleteYYEEah buddy! to #28

ReplyDeleteHow do you install this thing?
ReplyDeleteGo to Speed Hacks and there is a opcion that Say MTVU and you enabled and thats all
ReplyDeletewhat thing? Pcsx2 or the cpu lol
ReplyDelete^
ReplyDeleteExtract using WinRAR or 7zip and run pcsx2.exe.
Cristofer your Phenom how much Ghz Has?
ReplyDeleteI'm playing Wrath of Cortex now using GT330M with i5450 something, still have slowdowns..
ReplyDeletemy phenom has 4ghz until i get my water cooling next week :)
ReplyDelete175FPS in Persona 3 ^_^
ReplyDeleteMidnight Club 3 doesnt work with MTVU....
my phenom has 4ghz until i get my water cooling next week :)
ReplyDelete^^^^
lolz, you put a post about how your amd can rape an intel processor, and you need water cooling just to get passed 4ghz? fail LMAO. my i7 2600k can do 4.4ghz on air alone.
oh and i dont stress the shit out of my cpu like some people do, i go stable stable prime 95 for 6 hours plus. Stress is when the water cooling comes in so your 400 mhz difference is not impressive just saying.
ReplyDeletecan someone pls confirm if this works for amd also..tnx
ReplyDeleteThis WORKS on both AMD and INTEL CPUs!!! Geez...
ReplyDeletei c...tnx animatrix
ReplyDeletelol @ AMD owners
ReplyDeleteYou get what you pay for.
Very good on AMD AthlonII 635!!!
ReplyDeleteFirstly HUGE GRATZ on the effort and progress the devs are making. Second gratz to all you lucky people that can utilize it with their CPU's. Third @ dude with i7 2600k... Please can you tell me price of your CPU and your MoBo. I'm pretty sure Christophers combo is probably twice cheaper. Henceforth the "watercooling" doesn't count as he can buy decent GPU to make up for the price or just best watercooling there is (lame example) and it's not that much "slower" concerning that it's a lot cheaper. You know that there's a world outside of emulation. So, actually Intel can suck my balls.
ReplyDelete@ some idiots. IT DOES WORK ON AMD'S you retards. :p
@ Christopher
I think I've found my next CPU upgrade. It's damn right cheap.
exactly goran thanks man.
ReplyDeletebam!!!! pcsx2 rules....... i played nd raped time crisis : crisis zone in less than thirty minutes
ReplyDelete@Christopher lol look at you, your a fucking groupie, "exactly goran thanks man". you want to suck his dick too? you can't back your own facts up so you get someone else to fuck you in the ass and post it for you. just a bunch of loser amd fanboys who can't face reality, sad really.
ReplyDelete@#58 LOL you guys may be having a pointless flamewar, but i agree with you. the guy who is talking about the 5ghz on air is pretty retarded. if its not "stable" at 5ghz, then it doesn't count towards your argument. gotta hate losers online who think they know everything about computers, it's embarrasing to us real hardware geeks. anyways opinions aside, this emulator is awsome! =D
ReplyDeleteToL went up from ~20 fps to smooth 60 on my hexacore :3
ReplyDeletemore speed more 2ghz + core plsssss . not fair for us who uses 2ghz + core. this option is for 3ghz +core and for 4ghz +core. you forgotten the 2ghz+ core. thats not fair. we cant afford money to buy a new pc. cmon more speed begging here.
ReplyDeletefacepalm @ Anon 62
ReplyDeleteexcuse me, im not sure but, can i safely use that hack w/ only 2 cores?
