DOSBox SVN r3586 is released. DOSBox emulates an Intel x86 PC, complete with sound, graphics, mouse, joystick, modem, etc., necessary for running many old MS-DOS games that simply cannot be run on modern PCs and operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux and FreeBSD. However, it is not restricted to running only games. In theory, any MS-DOS or PC-DOS (referred to commonly as "DOS") application should run in DOSBox, but the emphasis has been on getting DOS games to run smoothly, which means that communication, networking and printer support are still in early development.
DOSBox also comes with its own DOS-like command prompt. It is still quite rudimentary and lacks many of the features found in MS-DOS, but it is sufficient for installing and running most DOS games.

First I want to say a big THANK YOU for all your efforts to bring to us (the users) the latest build of the emulators and other engines.
ReplyDeleteBug report/Solution/Suggestion: Please use the sdl.dll from the official DOSBox 0.73 installer.
Let me explain:
In the current pack for r3586 you are using the official sdl.dll 1.2.14.0. That will not work well in DOSBox. Why? Because the DOSBox devs use a custom version of the SDL lib and they had added some fixes/patches.
Thus in DOSBox SVN r3586 the output=ddraw doesn't work and it uses the surface instead (check the stdout.txt it gives an error and then it uses surface).
And if you leave the fullscreen=original it crashes in some games (like in Redneck Rides Again 800x600 resolution). But setting fullscreen=0x0 prevents the crash (weird), and the Redneck Rides Again launches at 800x600.
The above bugs don't exist when I replaced the sdl.dll with the one from the official DOSBox 0.73 installer.
Please take a look at this. Thanks in advance.
Thank you for reminding me.
